Abalone Diving

Today, Jesse, Matt, Scott and Kate went Ab diving in frigid water with measuring and bludgeoning tools. Jesse was the only one to succeed, and he got two of them. The ritualistic sacrafice at the campsite that night was quite a production.

It was a grey day with nearly constant drizzle. I didn't want to freeze and risk renting the gear for junk conditions, so I just walked the beach and listened to my audio book. It's a bit of a cheap cop-out, but I had a lot of fun just chilling. They spent 3 full hours in the water with fat wetsuits, hoods, and bludgeons.

An overlook from Russian Gulch state park.
Flower.....

Jesse and his catch. As a bra.
The muscle. This guy was strong and smart. You should have heard Jesse's description of his hunt. Very funny. I saw him come up and give everybody a hi-five from shore.
The river at Russian Gulch.
The coastline.
A blowhole at the state park - this thing was really neat. Basically, a cave leads nearly 100 yards undergrond to the ocean, yet waves make it through.
