Welcome to Brussels

As I was all spaced out, waiting to get into the hostel to go to sleep, a giant demonstration walked by. It was really interesting. Many slogans about Israel and the USA. Chanting, slogans like "Hamas-Jihad-Hez-ball-ah", burning flags, hilarious bush puppets, and a super disturbing picture of a kid with holes blasted in her. Actually, I can't really say how disturbing the pictures were. It was some woman just holding the picture. It was not a poster or some fancy print, and there was no text. Just a picture, like many I print out for myself. A relative of hers? It was really disturbing. Welcome to the capial of Europe. I'd imagine that DC should have something like this going on about now.

While I agree that the US is pretty much the fuck-holes of the world right now, and Israel is no better- I don't agree with the thought that Hamas/Hezbolah (sp.) etc. would be better at running a country. There is one thing that is absolutely true- whatever group is in power is going to take advantage of the minority group, and when you consider that these people have two distinct arms of their organizational structure (one performing bombing, and the other political) I don't see how you can support that any more than someone who makes millions off of the destruction of places like Iraq (Halliburton, et al).

absolutley. i don't think that religous-fundamentalism combined with small arms is the right way either. the more i get in to it, the more fucked up it seems. i just don't think that we're helping the situation by funneling billions in arms & weaponry to israel. why not just stop selling bombs to these people and see what happens?
