Narita

the japanese rock. here i am, sitting in narita airport, typing at a "pc-station" complete with desk chair, lamp, two plugs, and a mouse pad. the whole airport is on wireless, there's coin operated massage chairs, shower rooms, quiet-rooms, windows everywhere, and kid-play-rooms (think mc-plaground) throughout the airport. this place is huge. i really dig the japanese style. the crappier your job, the better your uniform. the trash collectors have these really colorful jumpsuits and the "bins" look like giant plastic tanks. i haven't found any of those turbo-toilet junk-spraying-washer-dryer things, but i did find a "squat-hole" toilet. it was very strange looking. porcelain and very posh looking, except it wasn't a seat, it was in the ground. i was tempted to try..... at least i got to use my 2 years of japanese practice so that i could ask for noodles and talk about paying by credit card. the dude next to me from kansas didn't do so well..... he had 3 very confused waitresses trying to "sign" to him. funny stuff. anyways, i've had 4 hours to kill here so i've had plenty of time to explore. i spent most of the plane ride reading papers or practicing my talk (and probably frightening the old guy next to me with my chatter). my head is fried, i'm tired, and somehow it turned into sunday (date line i supppose). i'm going to sit here and stare at the pictures i took of waianae on the way out......

The "turbo toilets" as you call them are pretty cool. We have them at work. The whole uniform thing is interesting. Them women have uniforms with puffy sleeves (think 1988 bridesmaid). Luckily I have a "regular" looking uniform. So yeah, you should to the squat toilet just to say you did, but I find them utterly disgusting even though they are supposedly more sanitary. At Shin-Osaka station (where the Shinkansen stops in Osaka), the bathrooms smells like a piss pot. I'll take a port-o-potty at a Polish festival anyday.
