A Night Figuring....

I'm actually quite stoked on these figures.... They're a long time coming and it's always good when you get to 3am and have something solid to show for it.

Flying the Cardinal to Molokai Part II

Tiffany and Gabriel came along for a cross-country ride to Molokai...... I'm getting better at VOR navigation and radio work but still pretty much suck at landing this thing while trying to deal with dodging jets and talking to control towers.

PDP Madness

All I can say was this conference got a little out of hand.... I was helping a team with an ETRO 440 activity, trying to cohere the 2 AMSC teams + Communication Curriculum instructors, dealing with designing my own activity for ETRO 440, doing the "Special Projects" strand of talks / discussions, and being a PDP Olympic Judge.... Madness. Work hard play hard, and people even got arrested. How can we possibly top this?

PDP

Tomorrow stars the "Professional Development Program". I just found out that, barring more changes, I'll be officially teaching ETRO 440 Remote Sensing come January for the new UH Maui (not Maui Community College anymore!) set of classes...... Here come the education readings and acronyms. Let's try out PDP, ISELT, ReSELT, HPL Frameworks and the good old buzzwords of metacognition, assessment rubrics, operationalized content & process goal statements, student-learner-outcomes, technical and cognitive process skills, backwards-design, and all kinds of good things that perhaps a psychologist could explain to me some day....

Multitasking Mania

Looks like the sequencer works with this new detector.... so while I sit here collecting gigabytes of calibration data for HiVIS, I'm also learning how to get our "supercomputer" to cry. It's not really a supercomputer, just a big linux cluster - 42 separate nodes. Each node has 2x quad-cores (so that's 8 processors at 2.8GHz) and they each have 8GB of Ram and a hard drive. But I've got remote access and can use two nodes for doing tides stuff. Time to make some really nice videos.....

On the Mountain.....

I'm back up on Haleakala again getting the charge shuffling detector going.... It's somehow amazing that it works. It's just super exciting to have it actually doing what it's supposed to.
