DARPA Contracts - What the.....

Here's a BBC news story on some research presented at the latest American Geophysical Union.

The DARPA contracts are a lot like the contracts that fund my work. NASA, NSF, Dept. of Defense, Dept. of Energy, etc all give out research grants, contracts, or other stipends that fund somebody's work for a few years. DARPA is the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency. www.darpa.mil This story talks about how one of these contracts is developing neural implants to "steer sharks" around as "stealth" recon. Yes, I instantly thought they would be putting lasers on their heads. The article said they already can steer dog-fish around a tank (at Boston University). 2 questions come to mind. The first is WTF? The second is that I'm still constantly blown away by the level of military funding for WTF type projects - how the hell did somebody get approval for this kind of thing?

Thank God we'll be able to rely on dogfish and sharks in the near future to protect us
