UC Santa Cruz

I headed to Santa Cruz. The first reason was to give a talk at the "Symposium" for the newly minted "Institute for Science and Engineer Educators (ISEE)" on Friday. I was supposed to focus on research skills taught in the Akamai Maui Short Course (AMSC). Instead of teaching "content" - the facts and other things students normally memorize, regurgitate and flush - we focus a lot on teaching "process" - the basic research skills that you find in labs and insitutes (trade-offs, hypothesizing, reasoning, prototyping, demonstrating...)

The summers "Professional Develelopment Program" is ramping up. On Saturday, all 25 returning participants were brought to UCSC to take part in a workshop. Both days were a blur... but fun.
